Profile redirects to home page (URL Issues)

Okay, I figured out WHY this is happening, just not how to fix it.
http://www.mysite.com/members/ works as it should. The problem is when I click on a user . . .I get a url like this
“http://www.mysite.com/members/fred /” . The problem is that it’s putting a space after Fred and before the / so the resulting url is “http://www.mysite.com/members/fred%20/” which is not valid and redirects, as it should.
Everything with a members URL has that extra space. I am sure it’s a simple fix, could you please tell me where I should go to do so?
