@r-a-y and @Tore, agreed.
@peter-anselmo, a straightforward /uploadfolder/groupname/files (or something to that effect) is needed for organization of files and for ease of use. I’m extremely impressed with the plugin and find it remarkably effective for our needs.
@peter-anselmo,
The hierarchy, for me anyway, is to see things from an administrative standpoint.
It’s easy to see who uploaded what.
Oh! And maybe you can substitute “group name” for group id:
eg. “Test Group” has a group id of 1 and “admin” (user id #1) uploaded a file called readme.txt:
/upload-folder/1/1/readme.txt
@ray, I didn’t think of the administrative standpoint, I can see how that would be useful. Only for observation though – moving documents around by hand will just create broken links.
Using the group id would be easier and faster than using the group slug anyway, as the group id is stored in the database with each document and can be pulled in the same query.
“I’d like to know how people are using the plugin. For my client, It’s just 3-5 PDFs per group. With such a low volume, I didn’t anticipate the need for much heirarchy. “
True. We’re using about 10 PDFs in one group right now. It will grow but perhaps there will be about 100 per group.
We use this plugin for put some guides in group and allow people to upload new guides or tutorials.
Some user want to use this for music, and video too.
The ability to create multiple folder of documents for each group can be good…
I’m thinking it can be good to have the ability to show icons for type of files (text,music,video,image), i’m trying to do this but i’m not really skilled for that
