RC2 Theme Headache

  • @harouni

I’m having a terrible time with themes, all this talk about home theme and member theme and moving things around has got me so confused I don’t know what I’m doing.

And now the new RC2 has got me even more in a pickle.

I’ve followed the instructions on the upgrading from RC1 to RC2, switching theme’s in RC1 didn’t work either (only the home theme worked) and now I’m even more confused.

Please direct me to a place where I can understand all aspects of theming in Buddypress, especially custom themes, as I need to set up a custom theme for my site:)

    Thanks

    Haroun

If you are not using custom themes yet, just delete everything and start from scratch with RC-2. By the looks of it, you don’t have much data yet.

Follow the install instructions step by step and you will be fine:

    https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-buddypress/

Also, please don’t use “buddypress” in your domain name. When we get a hosting page set up on this site, we can’t link to your site if it breaks the domain policy.

    Thanks Andy

I don’t have much, cause I’m still learning. Should I delete the whole installation and start from scratch or just the BuddyPress?

I chose the domain name before reading the domain policy, so I’ll change that :)

    Thanks again

I’m also having a problem with my themes, but for me it the home theme, the member theme works fine. I have upgraded to RC-2, following all the instructions, but when I try to activate the theme, I get a blank page in the preview. Any thoughts?

Note: In the “themes” it indicates that the theme is “BuddyPress Home Theme 1.0-RC1,” but i copied it from the RC-2 installation. I also manually downloaded RC-2 and replaced the home theme again, but the same result.

I just reinstalled RC-2, following all the instructions with the same result: a blank screen in the themes preview, and if I choose this blank window, I get a home blog without any theme at all. Perplexed.

Natscrim – the preview thing is a known issue. I have spent about three hours investigating it with jjj and not getting anywhere. I have made a ticket on trac.

But, for me, even though the preview was blank, the theme worked on the homepage.

have you removed bp plugin in mu-plugins and updated to wpmu 2.7.1 ?

    Thanks, Nicola,

Yes, I removed the plugin and upgraded to 2.7.1 — but… after I reinstalled RC-2 for second time and got the blank preview, I didn’t go further, assuming it would be the same as before. I just tried it, and it works!

    Thanks, again.

@natscrim: Check out “download zip” instead of clicking on the link ; because the link is pointing to the RC1 version while the “download zip” link is pointing to the right link.
