Read Only Group?

    I have some old groups that have some active members. I would like to close these groups to new members but let the current members still see the activity stream (and documents from a plugin) content, but only have read only access.

    I can’t figure out if this is possible or where to start if custom coding is needed.

    Any ideas from the community?

    I think custom coding will be needed here as I’m not aware of a setting or plugin that’ll let you do that.

    Maybe somebody else here might know of something?

    Henry do you think something like that could be written into core – a closed read only group as another option for group privacy settings? Seems like the longer these sites are going to be around the more demand there would be.

    You could open a feature request ticket on Trac. The core team would consider it I’m sure.

    There was/is a plugin called something like ‘Anouncement Groups’ that was as name suggested informational only , maybe not quite what is asked for as it joined all site members automatically but didn’t allow direct commenting / interaction but was read and notify only iirc

    Thanks Hugo. Looks like it’s http://commonsinabox.org/documentation/plugins/bp-group-announcements and https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/bp-group-announcements has the code so I’ll definitely start there.

    Think this was the plugin Hugo was thinking of, it’s not been updated in 4 years though.
