Regarding Searching Member Directory

    Hi. I am interested in finding out how the search feature of the member directories works. From what I have read, people are able to search for users from any information which the users have inputted into their profile. I would like to know if this would include searching for users based on their email address and how I could prevent this from happening. Also, I would like to know if I could limit the functionality of the search function to only search users based on their usernames and display names. I appreciate any assistance which anyone would be willing to provide me.

    The easiest approach, imo, would be to remove the current member search input from the members directory.
    For example, create an overload of this file and delete the code re member search:
    buddypress\bp-templates\bp-legacy\buddypress\members\index.php

    Then get this plugin: BP Profile Search
    And configure a custom member search that only includes the fields you want.
