Registration problems – no mail to administrator

    @pellepedersen

    WP:6.6.1
    BP:14
    BP Registration Options Version 4.4.5
    BuddyPress Members only 3.5.3

For many years, users on my site have been able to request membership, after which the administrator needed to approve them. Upon requesting membership, the applicant saw a message on the screen and received an email instructing them to await the administrator’s approval. Similarly, the administrator received an email, and it was clearly marked in BP Registration in the backend that there was a new application to be approved.

Suddenly, only the applicant receives an email. No email is sent to the administrator, and there is no marking in BP Registration. Are there others experiencing similar challenges?

    Best regards

It seems like WordPress has taken control over new member registrations.

The membership request must first be approved under WP User – Manage Signups. Once that is done, BP Registration takes over, and an email is sent, and the new user is marked for approval. (As usual)…

    Hello @pellepedersen

You aren’t getting notification emails when a new user signs up? Am i understanding it right?

I have the same setup as you. Discovered yesterday that people signing up are not receiving activation emails. Today i discovered I am not being notified when someone signs up.

Did you find out why you aren’t getting any emails of a new user signing up. I would have thought that’s the most minimum of an alert which should work without any hiccups.

Yes, that is correctly understood. I/the administrator suddenly do not receive notifications when there are membership requests. However, the applicant does receive an email. WP registers the request under Users, but BP Registration Options notes nothing. When I manually respond to the request via WP – User – Management, BP Registration Options is activated, and an email is sent, and BP Registration Options marks the request with a red dot (as usual). It’s as if WP and BP Registration Options do not want to cooperate. WP overshadows BP Registration Options.

Thank you for the link but that’s not going to resolve the problem.

I wish i knew a fix for your issue but i am completely at a loss too.

Happened to see some old threads going back 5-6 years and it seems these are not new problems.

“All input and advice are welcome.”

Ok, simply dial back your version of BP to an earlier one. Then your BP Registration Options will work as before and you can do things as you always did.

I still use BP 10.6 plus an older version of Registration Options. All’s good.

Why are people so mad keen to update to the latest version of WP and BP when it often breaks their previously perfect working setup?

Dear Thin Lizzy, thank you very much for the input. My system was set to auto-update. I might have a blind faith that all updates are good, but I fear PHP and WP conflicts. Should I just overwrite the newest version of BP with the previous one? Should I be prepared for problems when I do that?

Looks like your issues probably stem from BP changing the way new accounts are registered, which I think was introduced in BP 14 (but not sure, look into that).

So best to go back to an earlier version.

I use BP 10.6.4 with BP Registration Options to provide admin with moderation options for newly registered accounts (ie. they need to be “approved”)

So if that’s what you were doing earlier, then I’d recommend that setup.

    – You can manually delete and install an older version of BP, but I would recommend you use the WP Rollback plugin, much safer.
    – so, install WP Rollback plugin
    – do not delete anything
    – rollback Buddypress to v. 10.6.4
    – all should be ok

IMPORTANT : you should definitely do a full site backup before you do any rollback. Just in case. I’ve done it multiple times, no issues.

I used the WP Rollback plugin and rolled back to BP 12.5.1. Things are working again 😉 Thanks for your help. BR Pelle
