Remove render-blocking JavaScript

    Hello,

I fairly new to BuddyPress but I love it so far! I’m in the process of speeding up my site and I was wondering if you could help with this message that I am receiving from Google Pagespeed:

    Remove render-blocking JavaScript:

    -http://everydaynightlife.com/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/deprecated/js/jquery-scroll-to.min.js?ver=2.2.3.1
    -bp-core/js/jquery-cookie.min.js?ver=2.2.3.1
    -bp-core/js/jquery-query.min.js?ver=2.2.3.1
    -bp-core/js/widget-members.min.js?ver=2.2.3.1
    -bp-core/js/confirm.min.js?ver=2.2.3.1

Is there any way around these? Are they really slowing my site down? Any help would be appreciated.

Buddy Press version 2.2.3.1, WordPress version 4.2.2
    Thanks

I think what Google is saying “remove render blocking JavaScript” is kind of misleading. Remove being the offending word. Rather, they most likely mean to say move all JavaScript to the footer so it doesn’t block page rendering.

Note, I’d most certainly keep the JavaScript. However, I may consider moving it like Google suggest.

Don’t take these sorts of tools to literally they suggest things while not strictly being able to tell why something was done or if it really is an issue. Automated tools have always been somewhat of a bane.

Here we have a case where it says “blocking” while not actually saying those scripts are actually blocking, we always did load scripts in the head, if they can be loaded towards the end of the document great but not all can.

Also consider just what savings you may make in terms of load time, is it a concern?

@hnla in the past, whenever Google said jump, I tended to blindly jump fearing that their ranking algorithm would punish me if I didn’t. Nowadays, unfortunately, I still tend to blindly jump. 😉

@henrywright such is the power to cow people. The internet has become frigging amazing at demonstrating just how totalitarianism can flourish. We should not allow one company to wield this sort of power, but we do and we will be enslaved to it, thus the open did die due to absolute lust for power and domination – shame! </soapbox>
