Removing sidebar from forum page

I’m trying to remove the sidebar from my forum and members pages.
I tried to remove the tag from the members/index.php but its still there.
I don’t have a child theme and I would prefer to not have to build one. I’m a novice so I would probably mess it up. 😉 Anyone have a simple solution?
I saw there were several other posts but I can’t seem to find one that works.
