Replacing functions.php renders blank page

I was attempting to replace functions.php with my own. But when I create functions.php file under the child theme, even if blank, the website stops rendering and I end up with a blank page.

Is there a way to replace the parent functions.php, or do I have to modify the parent theme for that?

As long as you don’t re-declare a function in your child theme’s functions.php, it should work. Basically use it as a place for new stuff, you don’t need to duplicate the stuff in the parent theme.

I thought I created a blank file with no content. I will test it again later and post back.
