Replies disappear when I try to reply on Activity Stream page?

On the website, usually on the Activity Stream page, I’ve tried to reply to other peoples comments they’ve made on the website, whether it be posts I’ve made, or other peoples pictures they’ve uploaded & it will post the comment/reply of mine, but as soon as I refresh the page, it deletes them? I’m not sure if other users are also having this same problem, but there isnt much activity going on my website and this may be one of the reasons why.

    Ideas?

Ok I at least got the website back up & running… I dont know but for whatever reason my BuddyPress Magazine Child Theme 2 by Tammie Lister at Logical Binary (Incsub) doesnt seem to be working. I tried to re-install it, but I couldnt find it when searching available Themes.

Back to the original problem for now.

We’ve already suggested how your setup could be ‘messed up’ – perhaps you (or your developer?) have modified some of the core files?

I’d also be concerned about trying the theme built for 1.2.5.2 of BuddyPress with version 1.2.3 of the core – they might work together, but the theme might also rely on some amends in core (I’m doubtful on this, but it’s possible)

Your other problems should really be posted as separate threads on the forum.

Quickly though: your error message comes from including two files that declare the same function – it could be a badly coded theme / modifications / setup you are using, it could also possibly be something corrupted in your database / install – given that you’ve been trying to upgrade then downgrade, I’d be concerned that this is the case . If you want further support on this one, post it as separate thread, and give a lot more information about your setup and where the problem is occurring.

My personal suggestion would be to revert your system to a backup taken before you attempted the recent changes.

If your theme is purchased from Incsub (wpmu.org), you should contact them for support directly on problems with the theme

I already tried the most recent Buddypress Plugin with the 1.2.5.2 theme and it was still giving me the same issues, so its not the fact that I’m now trying it with 1.2.3

I did not touch the core files and neither did the developer.

Is there anything else I can try?

There has to be a way to pin point why it isnt working on the Activity Page?

I would probably throw that one at your developer?

It will be very hard for us to help any further from this point of view, you sound as though you need a developer working with the real files and able to test and debug stuff.

But if we’re at the core default files that havent been modified… why cant we figure it out?

I’ve spoken with the developers that helped me inistially & they are unsure of the problem also.

I’m no longer on their pay plan, so they arent digging in deep for me.

I guess thats why I was hoping to get it resolved on here.

Are there any files I can re-install without losing any of my site data? (members, forum posts, blogs etc?)

Er well while we’re willing to help there’s a limit to free support, but it’s not so much that that’s the issue it’s simply that we have exhausted what we can probably do without getting down and dirty with the actual site and files. You have an issue that shouldn’t be happening IF you have taken everything back to a clean install and default theme that is. It’s perplexing and I certainly don’t know what to suggest other to still think there’s some customisation or plugin at work causing issues – might not be a bp plugin!

As for asking whether there are files you can replace that is not a question that ought to be asked we have said and I think you have acknowledged that you must be testing with a clean install, core files should never have been modified if your child theme files were then that would be caught by using the default theme to test with – that theme as well as the core files should never be modified. If these conditions are met there is something very screwy going on and you will need to pay a developer to look the site over.

My 10c worth – it also may be that your database is corrupted – perhaps a plugin that hasn’t tidied up correctly.

I suggested earlier that you revert to a previously backed up database (ideally from a known working version) and system.

If you are not able to do this – as @hnla suggests, you should look at hiring a developer who’ll be able to look directly at your database and files, and dedicate the time you need to find a fix.

I guess I’m not sure because if I disabled all plugins except Buddypress, then even if a plugin hadnt tidied up correctly, disabling should take that problem/plugin out of the equation right?

I’m reluctant to use a backup because it would have to be from months ago & that would lose a lot of new users that have signed up since then.

I’m going to sign back up with my developers pay program & have them dig a little deeper.

Thanks for all the help anyways everyone.

@JohnnyScience: i do have exactly the same problem i think. im able to post in the main activity stream, and im able to replay to a post in the main activity stream. im able to post to a group activity. im NOT able to reply to a post of any group activity. The post seems to work normal an is shown, but when refreshing the page it disapears. any hint?

i just have overwritten the complete pluginsbuddypress* folder with the original core files (downloaded from this site) error still there. STRANGE!

the problem is confined to replies to postings in a group activity stream

its ok if you reply in the main activity stream and if you view the post first then reply

if a reply goes missing if you view the original post and then reply to it hey presto the missing reply is visible again

my guess its a bug in the group activity loop

Hi All. I also faced the same problem. It drove me crazy for a while though. I analysed the problem as a layman and am not a techie guy basically.
I went through all the recently activated plugins to find the culprit which disappeared Reply TextBox. I came across disabling the plugin “Digg Digg” which is a social bookmarking plugin. Although it’s a great plugin to have, my current theme had a face-off with it. So I was forced to de-activate this plugin.
Well, the problem might be your theme or any recently activated plugin. Monitor your website consistently to find the error, and take appropriate actions right away to find the culprits and ditch them off.
The problem here was, something prevented Ajax controls to load which stopped loading/made TextBox disappear in a miracle. In my case, “Digg Digg” plugin loads its content with Ajax. So I guessed it must be the one which troubled me. Once I removed it, things rolled back to normal and settled!
