[REQUEST] Fix BuddyPress’s Gravitational Orbit.

WordPress should be the center of attention with the BuddyPress plugin. That being said: BuddyPress, would you quit reinventing the wheel and start using more built-in WordPress functionality?

Most of which you are creating could be stored in the database in a fashion that’s suitable for WordPress.

– Get with the times.
– Become more cutting edge.
– Start using more Custom Data for database activity.

Custom Post Types, Custom Taxonomies and Terms, and Post Meta / Custom Fields.

There is absolutely no reason you shouldn’t already be using Custom Data for database activity. After all, this is a WORDPRESS PLUGIN, isn’t it?

If we had a time machine to go back to 2007/08, and build BuddyPress using custom post types and custom taxonomies — which weren’t usable until 2010 — we probably would.

The core team talk regularly about how BuddyPress stores data and we may move to using post types or taxonomies in the future. @michaelecklund BuddyPress is built with the intentions of scaling into millions of users, something individual WordPress sites were not originally intended to handle. Shoving everything into a WordPress post type/taxonomy is not the answer, and does not solve any immediate problems.

Square pegs, round holes, and all that.
