Request: User-Customized Activity Streams

I would love to see an activity stream filter for posts from blogs that the logged-in user is “following”. And/Or activity from other members that the user is following/friends with.
This would customize the activity stream into a personalized google reader.
I know that the “follow” concept has been discussed. This seems like a natural extension.
It would certainly give a lot more of my readers a reason to sign up.
