Required name and logout issues

Hi guys, i’ve installed buddypress and it seems to work fine, but i’ve gout 2 major issues:

    1) as you know, the registration form of WPMU requires to fill username and email fields. Now, buddypress also requires a full name field to be filled, and this field overwrites the “username” field of wpmu. So in my registration page i’ve username, email, and again “full name” as required fields!

I don’t understand why bp should ask 2 times for a name: i could rename the field as “your favourite food”, or other, but the username would be converted in “pasta” or “chicken”, and it could be embarassing :-)

    2) logout does not work, and the problem is the redirect in the url. I’ve tried modifying the templatetags page in Bp-core in order to remove the redirect, but it sorts no effect. What page i should modify to manually set the logout url?

    Thanx!

    Hi.

As for nr 1 I don’t follow. The WPMU user name field is for logging in to the site. The bp full name field is used everywhere else in bp whenever a user is referenced. So they shouldn’t ever “overwrite” eachother.

At least this is how it works for me.

    2) Are you using the latest beta build (or trunk)? If you mix and match releases these redirect errors can and will occur. I had them myslef until I installed the latest version of the bp theme.

Thanx Martin. yes, i’ve seen that the full name does not overwrite the username. but you know that the username is commonly the name of the user, and not only a login data. And so, i think that will be difficult for users to write 2 names, one for the login and one for the profile. It would been better if BP had used the username as profile name.

I’m sorry but I have to disagree. I have MartinNr5 as a user name but I still want to use my full name in the rest of the site. It makes it a lot more personal in my opinion.

Have you solved the redirect problems?

no…i don’t understand where to change the redirect url. I’m using the beta 2 version with no trunk mixed in

if someone wants to take a look this is the url of my buddypress: http://wikiroma.it/index.php

it’s the community area of http://wikiroma.it that is a multi blog about Rome

What is the exact problem you get? In what way doesn’t the logout URL work?

As Andy mentions in the sticky post about the new beta you need to update your themes with the latest code as well (functions.php IIRC).

when i click on the logout link in bp, it points to: (sorry i don’t know how to insert code)

after clicking, in the left column of the bp theme i read something like: “sorry, this page can’t be found”, and the user remains logged in.

For logging out, users should enter the wpmu backend and logging out from there: (sorry i don’t know how to insert code)`

I’ve installed the 1.02b combo version, and i’ve just tried downloading the last svn version of the functions.php for the buddy press home theme, but it still does not work

(You don’t need to insert code, just copy and paste the text straight into the post.)

It seems as if I’m not skilled enough to help you further as I have no idea what this could be.

I see that you have a custom theme though. Can you try and revert to the default BuddyPress theme and see if that works?

Hi Martin, thanx for your help.

I’ve just noticed a strange thing: in my local installation, logout works. It is the online version that fails…but pages are the same! Maybe it is possibile that some server configuration could give problems?

That could very well be the cause although I’m not sure what it could be.

Can you re-upload all the files online again to see if that helps?

i’ve re uploaded just now all bp. Nothing change…i’d like to understand where to modify the logout url, removing the redirect.

I’ve tried changing the templatetags in bpcore but it sorts no changes.

note: every time i try to paste the link url here in the forum, the post don’t go published

I don’t know why you’re not allowed to post an URL – it works fine for me. :/

And I’m all out of ideas, sorry. Hopefully someone else can help you with the more technical questions you have.
