I’ve been tearing my hair out trying to figure out a solution, not finding one that seems to fit the task. I have a site for a group of individuals and not for just any public viewing. If I allow user registration, anyone can access. And if I turn off ‘anyone can register’, a person has to already have a username and password. At least I think that’s how it works.

Some plug-ins I’ve looked at that make some pages private, or restrict access to the entire site, don’t offer what I think might be the ideal solution. Either:

1. I provide a master password/verification code to all individuals, and they use this to register with. So they would get access by creating a username, but not use the regular registration process in which an email is sent with a verification key.

2. Better would be if I could add the requirement of a master password/verification code and then, if they successfully enter that, they proceed to the site and register as any eligible member would (i.e. create a username, look for the verification link in their email, etc.). So I would be locking down the ability to register with a password/code I send all eligible members separately (I know who they are and their emails) but they would still need to visit the site, enter the verification code, and then advance to the registration page to create full access and their profile, etc.

Any thoughts?? Solution ideas??
