Search by Member Name (not username)

I am having difficulty with the search feature. As it stands now, buddypress can only search and find users by username. Is there a way to allow it to search by first name, last name, city, state, etc? I have tried (and failed) to use the BP Profile Search plugin. Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Please be as specific as possible as I am not a coder and have very limited experience in this field.
