I do not even know where to start on this one. when I type any search into the search bar on my site, I get the 404 error page. Any ideas on what I should check, or some troubleshooting ideas? Thanks.

If you are not yet running BuddyPress, then you will need to visit the WordPress.org support forums. This is a lot of information on this issue. WordPress is the foundation on which the plugin BuddyPress is installed. As you indicate above in your answer to question 6, you do not even have BP installed, so this is purely a WP issue.

i understand that. I wanted to get this working before attempting the BP install, but I never got an answer over at wordpress.org, and everyone here is very knowledgeable.
