Selective frontpage news

    Hi,

First off, great work with BuddyPress, I have been looking forward to this for just about 6 months!

Is there a way to display the latest posts from a selected group of blogs? Or somehow select the posts that make it to the frontpage? Like some kind of filter that allows the main site’s editors and admins select the top posts and have them as featured posts?

The situation is that we have hundreds of blogs, but only 5 of them are maintained by us, and we would like to keep the rest of the blogs from making it to the front page unless we specifically add the post. Quality control.

The bp home theme is really just a widget framework. You can install any widget you like in that theme. You can modify the standard ‘activity’ and ‘recent blog posts’ widgets. You can install a plugin that aggregates feeds from specific blogs. Your requirements are pretty specific so you have to decide if you are going to develop custom code or try to utilize some off the shelf plugins.

To answer your question. No there isn’t a mechanism in place that allows you to be selective in the posts that show up using the ‘sitewide activity’ or ‘recent blog posts’ widgets.

    Have fun.

thank you, do you have any recommendations for plugins that do this?

I was looking around for something similar. Not exactly what you are talking about though. I ran across:

wp-o-matic which aggregates rss feeds to a blog

    http://devthought.com/wp-o-matic-the-wordpress-rss-agreggator/

donncha’s site wide tags (which doesn’t work with bp at the moment)

    http://ocaoimh.ie/2008/10/01/wordpress-mu-sitewide-tags-pages-031/

Any solution you find will probably not include your requirement for being selective about the posts you show. You are probably going to have to find something near what you want and modify it for your needs.

Maybe somebody else has a different approach or suggestion?
