Smilies / Emoticons How to (?)

    Hi!

    My users are asking is there a way to have emoticons on Buddypress?

    well, I know basic emoticons are available,..

    But is it possible to display some kind of list.. so it would be easy for them to pick them from to insert?

    They are used to other forums, where it is possible..

    any help really appreciated

    A list under the posting window to select smilies…

    to get at the list of built in smilies (or even override the list) the global $wpsmiliestrans contains an array

    have a look in wp-includes/formatting.php for the smilie stuff (filters to override the location, translate_smiley will return an img src, etc)

    If you’re running BP on a single installation just install the “custom smilies” there after under each comment or reply box you can put an emote menu in where the user will click “emoticons” and it will bring up an iframe in a fancy window and you can just select what smily you want based on category

    @gibbyesl, I’ve done this on a buddypress site that I’m currently busy with. I’ll post a step-by-step guide once I’m done. :)

    got around to posting up what i did – but on the forum area only.

    Tried and the instructions are nice and simple but my files seem a little different and the references to lines are not the same…
    Tried several times but failed to get it working…
    Would love to know if anyone got it working on the following
    1.2.4.1 / 2.9.2 not MU default theme
