[Solved] user-uploaded bp avtaars do not show up in multisite multiuser blog

Someone please help:
This seems to be an old issue – still happening with
latest WordPress 3.0.1 and Buddypress.1.2.5.2

define( ‘SUBDOMAIN_INSTALL’, false );`Expected : users who have uploaded a cropped photo or avatar via buddypress should be able to show the same in all posts and comments across blog posts in wordpress.
What is happening instead: gravatars are showing in blog posts eg. blog comments while the correct user uploaded avtaars are showing up in activity stream and all pages across buddypress
