Static Post on Activity Page

Is it possible to have a static post or widget area at the top of the Activity page. I just want a quick snap shot for my readers how to use my site. I am using the BP default theme.

You can add widget areas anywhere you like. See this tutorial to learn how: http://wpmu.org/how-to-widgetize-a-page-post-header-or-any-other-template-in-wordpress/

You should create a child-theme of bp-default first though to avoid having to redo all your modifications when you upgrade Buddypress: https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/
