Supporting Devs & wishlist

I had a dream … once said a wise man … and so do I.

I’m looking forward to have all this functionality a social network needs in BuddyPress and it makes great progress … tweetstream, fbconnect, BP Documents, Wikis … all this great stuff, but there are still some things I’d like to have.

As Jeff mentioned in another post, it’s hard for devs to get users donating some money.

Sadly I’m neither a coder nor can I speak various languages so the only thing I can give to devs to support and engourage them is betatesting, translating and some donations.

I think there should be a whishlist where plugin-devs could get inspiration and a fund, where they could get some money (users like me donate) of for making wishes come true.

Is anyone interested in doing such a project with me? and much more important would this be ok for the BP-core-team?

I don’t know where to post this so i’ll post it here.

I’m working on a new version of this site that will automatically create a group for every new BuddyPress plugin that appears in the repo. This means plugins will get all the functionality of BP groups – a forum, activity stream, a list of members who are interested in the plugin, etc etc. I’m also going to add a donate page, which should help out a bit.

This has been held up a little right now because I’m trying to get the new upgrade/install wizard done first. This will allow BP to use WordPress pages instead of hacking with root components. It’s all bits of the jigsaw that need to be put in place before I can continue. Hopefully by the end of the month I should have at least the first iteration of the site close to completion.

I’m very intertested in doing this, and I’ve been working on this for the new BP-Tricks site.. I’ll send you a private message with some more details, because I think we are both wanting to do the same; set up a place where plugin suggestions can be made and plugin ideas can get adopted by developers.

i’d like very much to see some possibilities to get some attraction for devs …

I think buddypress is very promising for the future but needs some additional functionality ( i think i wont post here again what i’d liek to have ;-) ).

Problem 1: I don’t have enough money ( and i think there might be others feeling the same) to pay devs for the whole work

Problem 2: If someone had the money to let them add additional functionality, they might not make the product (code, plugin) he payed for public …

so if there was a fund where anyone coudl give some money and BP would manage the money this could work …

As buddypress grows with new “objects”, there is an opportunity for designers to work on graphical grammars and ways of representing those objects.

Why not add a “designers” menu.

where we could find groups for themes of course

but also : icon sets, avatar generators, …
