Switching from subdomain to subdirectory and vice versa

I have WordPress-mu and BuddyPress installed with the subdomain option but realise now that I should have chosen subdiirectory.

Is there a simple way to change this or tutorial to talk one through the detail?

No, there is no simple way. If you’ve just set it up, the best bet is to export the blog content you’ve created so far, reinstall WPMU (selecting subdirectory during the new installation), and import the blog information.
