Testing Buddypress on Localhost before 1.7

I would like to test my current BuddyPress site on my Localhost using MAMP before I upgrade to 1.7
I’m currently running Version 1.6.5 and a custom child theme using it’s parent theme, BuddyPress Default.
Does anybody have experience with the easiest way to do this? Plugins? or http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress ?
Also if I follow the Moving_Wordpress, I assume I “Use the Search and Replace for WordPress Databases Script to safely change all instances.” and Follow “If You Want Your Old Blog To Still Work – Part A?”
List the best practices below, and thanks in advance.

export db and import into mamp phpmyadmin. Then you just change the url in db. This is if you just want to test theme. If you need full plugin testing you should also download wp-content
