Lately I get an error while creating a group at this stage: create/step/group-avatar Error: There was an error saving group details. Please try again. My site details are: WordPress: WP single install 2.9.2 Where: On a Subdirectory – http://nijmegeneet.nl/club/ BuddyPress: BP 1.2.3 Plugins activated: All in One Webmaster, Custom Login Page, Tweetstream, Maintenance Mode, Facestream, BuddyPress Links, Invite Anyone, oEmbed for BuddyPress, W3 Total Cache, Wordpress Backup, WordPress Table Rename, WP-DBManager, WP Security Scan Theme: Child Theme of bp-default bp-custom.php: <?php define(‘BP_MEMBERS_SLUG’,’leden’); define(‘BP_GROUPS_SLUG’,’groepen’); define(‘BP_ACTIVITY_SLUG’,’activiteit’); define(‘BP_MESSAGES_SLUG’,’berichten’); define( ‘HEADER_IMAGE_WIDTH’, 939 ); define( ‘HEADER_IMAGE_HEIGHT’, 132 ); ?> BbPress: built-in Hosting: Servage Hosting I got this after upgrading BuddyPress Links to version 0.4. Can this cause this error? Thanks for your help!

It’s not obvious to me how any of the BP plugins you’ve got installed would affect group creation (as far as I know, Invite Anyone, BP Links, and oEmbed all keep their hands off of the group creation process) but your best best for testing is to disable those plugins one by one to identify the problem. I tried deactivating Invite Anyone, BP Links and that indeed didn’t matter. What could i have done to cause this effect. I’m trying to remeber what I did the last couple of days and can only think of upgrading plugins, but I might have done something else. Ofcourse you don’t know what I did, but maybe there is something that I’ve done that causes this effect you know of? Sound kinda stupid I know. A wild shot! The error occurs after I hit the next step button here: http://nijmegeneet.nl/club/groepen/create/step/group-settings/ I also get this message from wordpress > WordPress Failure Notice: Are you sure you want to do this? Please try again. I get this here: http://nijmegeneet.nl/club/groepen/create/step/group-avatar Any clues? Have you made theme changes recently? Are you inheriting the group creation pages from bp-default? The “are you sure you want to do this?” message often means that there is a nonce issue, which could result from missing security keys in your theme files. I have made a child theme with the widgetized homepage by ‘modemlooper” I copied all those files to a new folder and added some custom styling of my own. The latest theme change I made is I added this to my style.css: #links-list img.avatar-embed { max-height:50px; } because the BP links widget looked not right on my widgetized homepage. Avatars were really big. Furthermore: My server was down last week for 30 hours. Could they (servage hosting) messed thing up? I suggest switching back for a moment to bp-default to see if the problem is theme-related. If so we can troubleshoot from there. I just switched back to bp-deafault. I made a group an still the same error message Are you having other problems creating content? Can you post new forum topics? New activity updates? Yes I can make activity updates, links and forum topics. Just groups are acting weird? There was an error saving group details. Please try again. When I hit the main groups button. The group is actually created, but without going through all the right steps! I’m having the same issue. Did you resolve this? When I upgraded to bp version 1.2.4 the problem magically disappeared…. If you did not upgrade please do and see if it works for you! I’ve upgraded and still having the problem… I couldn’t solve it. I’m using WP 3.0 and befor I upgrade to WP 3.0, same error was with me. BP: 1.2.4.1 Any suggestions? Same problem here.I cannot create groups on a new installation of WP3.0 and BP 1.2.5 i get the error: “There was an error saving group details, please try again.” What to do? I found the same problem for activity updates and messages: “There was a problem posting your update, please try again.”
“There was an error sending that message, please try again”Is there any resolution to this? I have a WP 3.0 installation with BP Version 1.2.5.2
I’m using BP Columns 1.2 by modemlooper theme
The only other Plugin is Akismet.I just tried BuddyPress Default 1.2.5.2 and I got the same problem . . . I just tried BuddyPress Widget Theme 1.2.1 by modemlooper and I got the same problem . . . Any Help Out There? Anyone? I have just tried another (different) theme: Gradient 1.0.1 by Sandeep Hegde
and I still cannot Create a Group and cannot do any other function which requires groups. My problem was the oohembed.js file. I removed it from header.php and it works well. Normally this problem is a result of a plugin including AJAX or other JavaScript which breaks group creation. Same problem here. Reading these forums, I’m seeing a good number of fellow people in this predicament with scant direction on how to troubleshoot it. @djpaul: this problem arises regardless of whether i’m using a default theme or a modified theme with the buddypress template pack. is there a trick i could use to identify the source of the problem… perhaps a tool to troubleshoot javascript performance with buddypress activated? Howdy. I’m experiencing the same problem. Not only group creation is involved. After not being able to continue to the select group avatar step whilst creating a group. I go back to the groups page index and the group is there. However if I try to create a topic I get the error: “There was an error when creating the topic”.
Though I only have one group created, the group count says 4!.
Regarding the discussion capabilities for groups I have installed bbpress through the built in installer in buddy press. bb-config.php looks okay. All the involved directories have the right permissions.I deleted all the files from the server, dropped the db, re-installed from ground without any additional plugins and it still produces the same error. I wonder if any of the developers can give us a hint on what to check. Regards! Martin PS: I’m running WordPress 3.0, Buddypress 1.2.5.2. Okay. Issue resolved. This time I deleted everything and activated buddypress and selected the default theme. No additionals plugins at all. And it works okay. All the group/forums capabilities work as expected.
Now, I’m going to install one pluging at a time and re-check if functionality remains the same, till I find out which of the plugins is causing the malfunctioning.
I had installed several plugins including: tweetstream, facestream, SEO for buddypress, bp like, bp friends, etc, etc. One of those is crashing the group/forums feature in buddypress.I’ll let you know which one is causing it after I finish testing. Regards. Martin OKay. Installed tweetstream and everything worked just fine. Installed the second plugin (FaceStream) and it corrupted the group/forum functionality. I’ll continue to test with other popular plugins and I’ll keep you posted. Here is the result.
In my case it was face stream the plugin causing the groups/forums problem.I’ve re-installed and tested the following plugins/themes and everything works as it should. With the exception of FaceStream. My advice is once you have the base installation up and running with the groups and forums. Go step by step activating one plugin at a time and testing the group/forum functionality. Regards. Martin TwettStream – OK
FaceStream – Failed It corrupted the group functionality. (If you uninstall and delete the plugin
group and forums start to work normally)
 BuddyPress Like – OK
 oEmbed for BuddyPress – OK
 BuddyPress Classifieds – OK
BuddyPress Rate Forum Posts – OK
 BuddyPress Links – OK
 BuddyPress Album+ – OK
BuddyPress Group Forum Extras – OK
BuddyPress Site Wide Activity Widget – OK
 BuddyPress Community Stats 0.2.0 – OK-Themes.
Installed Default Buddy Press theme – ok.
Installed Fishbook – okThere you go! Good work @lu5dx Hey gang, I had this problem also. The reason it is so hard to pin down is because there are two steps to fixing it. 1. Once the BP is installed ok, the db tables don’t actually get created until you visit the Forums tab. 2. Deactivate the buddypress plug-in and then Activate it again. That’s it. All the rest of it is unnecessary (removing Ajax plugins and so on).
