Tons of 404 pages

I get a lot of 404 pages on my site, but luckily they only flash for a second. But this still affects the user experience. For example, if I’m trying to edit my profile at http://mywebsite.com/members/m/profile/edit/
the 404 will flash for a second, and then redirect straight to http://mywebsite.com/members/m/profile/edit/group/1
Is there any way to get rid of this? Or is something wrong with my site?
