Troubleshooting the messaging system

    I got this error trying to use the messaging system:

    Message could not be sent, please try again.

    I’ve found some old posts about problems and bugs. Not sure what’s solved and what not and where to start with troubleshooting.

    Notice to all did work. And sending mail did work on a later attempt with a longer text; is there a minimum limit?

    Finding members by name does not work for all names. Is it based on fullname, wp_usermeta, xprofile, other profile data? Or can you only send to friends? (that would make sense…)

    Are there known bugs or problems I should look out for?

    This is a cool feature btw! :-)

    Hmm, I think these are triggered because BuddyPress doesn’t pick up who the recipients are.

    Not being funny, you are entering correct usernames in the ‘to’ field, right?

    Not usernames, full names. And the only one that is found is by full name, not username.

    After some testing I think you have to be friends. Maybe there’s a setting somewhere…
