Trying to embed a notification counter on my current theme

    Hello every one,

    I’m trying to integrate my current theme with buddypress.
    I already have a top navigation menu where it checks if (user is logged in) { show My Profile link }

    What I’m trying to currently do is put a notification counter next to my profile link

    for example ( My Profile (5) )

    meaning i have 5 new messages.

    How would I achieve that ?
