Tutorial to integrate BP 1.0 RC-2, WPMU 2.7.1 and bbPress
-
I’ve written out the step by step instructions that I use to integrate the latest releases of BuddyPress, WPMU & bbPress. If someone could test it out and give me your feedback I’d be very appreciative. My main question is, do the directions work or did I leave something out?
To know if it works, you should be able to log in and out of WPMU & be automatically be logged in/out of forums. And vice versa.
Also, you should be able to create new groups with posts & replies.
It’s very detailed, so if you’re having problems getting your forums & groups to work, you might want to give it a try. Couldn’t hurt, right?
It can be found at

Any suggestions, questions & feedback are welcome and VERY appreciated!!!
Thanks!!

Hopefully this is being placed in the right area. Something’s wonky with my ISP and I’m unable to get to the front page of the forums. If not, I apologize and could someone plz move it where it belongs? TYVM!!

Thanks for contributing to the community!
My one and only suggestion for this, is that you may want to reference the trusted download sites and zip files versus your own.
While your contribution is obviously very much super duper appreciated, some people are weary of downloading files from untrusted sources, which limits your audience even though you’re trying to be helpful.
Otherwise, it seems to be as straight forward as it can be, so good job.
Thanks to both of you for replying. JJJ, I’ll be sure and put those on there tomorrow. I meant to and actually thought I had. Oooops. LOL
Thanks again
Thanks for the terrific instructions!
My only question is after WPMU 2.7.1, BuddyPress RC-2 and BBpress Alpha 6 is installed and functional, is how to include the Forum button on the home and member templates or did not follow the instructions properly?
Thanks Again
You’re welcome, Mekudos. Thanks for checking it out.
The forums aren’t really meant to be seen by users. It’s simply what’s used to make group posting work. If you create a new group and give it some posts & replies, then head to the forums, you’ll see how the 2 parts of the installation work together.
If you want your members to actually log into and post via forums (rather than groups) then you’ll need to put a link on your template that would direct them there.
You are a friggin’ genius! Single sign-on has been giving me trouble for a while now, but 5 min with your directions and we’re golden.
There were steps in here I’ve never heard of (probably why it didn’t work before [cough]) thanks for making it so clear!
You should get a Nobel prize for this!
(In related news, why the hell is it this complex?! You should think that the guys at WP or BBP would have figured something out by now…)
TYVM Flynn! You totally made my day. Maybe this will be in the new release and we can avoid the dents in our foreheads next time.
I’m following the instructions for the new 1.0 release, however when get to the point where I save the config file in step one and then I click the button to take me to step two and it just sends me straight to the forum homepage and does not allow me to set up the integration?
I’ve tried to deleting the bb config file a few times now but the same thing keeps happening?
Any ideas why?
I’m having a problem I can’t get around. The integration seemed to go just fine but here is my process.
1. Create a group, including discussions.
2. Forum is created just fine. I can go INTO bbpress and create a topic and see it listed on the group “active forum topics”
3. HOWEVER, if I try to click on the link on the group page to either go to the “see all” link for forums or click on the topic itself, it doesn’t find it. It seems to be a permalink issue. I’m using name based permalinks for bbpress but I’ve tried all of the settings with no luck. It knows that SOMETHING is there, it’s just not creating the right links and I don’t know where it’s going wrong. Has anyone seen this?
@Symm2112: Link to your website?
Which versions of everything are you using?
Might be better to take support requests into new threads to leave this thread clean.
I have no cookie salts, why doesnt I have them.. and you’re instructions dont tell me how to get them.
I’m confsued
@Clueless: head on over to your wp-config.php file and comment out or erase the lines that read ‘define(‘…’);’ and save that file. Now log back into your back-end of WPMU and you’ll see that a note is at the top with newly generated values for ALL of these things.
Now take those values and put them back into your wp-config.php file and save. Use those values for the cookies/salts for everything.
Those are the values to use, hope that helps!
