OH MY GOD!! I got the same sort of error after the 1.6 update installation. I can’t do anything with the site now.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function is_site_admin() in /home/content/e/z/c/ezcs2009/html/wsnursing/wp-content/plugins/buddypress-like/bp-like.php on line 248

I didn’t get an update wizard at all – it went straight to this error. My only thought is that I inputted a “garden wall” in my original code to keep our website from being open to the general public. Anyone have any ideas? Help?

@kmtrent – you probably have some code in a plugin or a theme that assumes BuddyPress is always loaded. This isn’t always the case, and obviously causes problems like this.

@ezcs – if you read your error line, you see it is coming from from plugins/buddypress-like/. That plugin hasn’t been updated for almost two years. Which version of BuddyPress did you upgrade from? Regardless, go into your site via FTP (or however you normally upload files), go into plugins, and rename the “buddypress-like” folder into something else. This should let you log back in to your site, go to the plugins page and it should display a message about a “broken plugin”.

@djpaul: If there’s anyone more “The Man” than you, I don’t know who he is.

THANKS A MILLION! I learned something new today. The renaming plugin folder worked.

Thank you, @Paul Gibbs. I am new to Buddy Press, and I am assuming that my theme which I chose to go with Buddy Press is the issue. What can I do? It seems that everything is working accept the admin page and the interaction among members. Any ideas where I should look first? Thank you for your assistance.

I am using the Custom Community theme. Looking through the files on the back end, but I am not used to handling things from this end. I really need someone to give me some ideas of what to look for. I did find the line mentioned in the error, but I don’t think that is where the adjustment needs to be made? I do not know how to disable plugins or adjust things outside of the Admin Page. It is really bad here…anyone have a few to help me? I am unable to monitor or even approve comments. Our website is pretty much out of control right now.

I am concerned about re-installing Buddy Press, when I am not even sure how to make sure my members accounts are not compromised. Will be up trying to get this resolved before tomorrow! It looks like the upgrade was successful, but there is a code somewhere that is locking me out of the WP dashboard.

Ok, I am going to just keep posting things till someone helps me figure this out. I do have the following plugins running on my site: Buddy Press, bbpress, Events Manager Pro, and Gravity Forms. Anyone have an idea which one would make the upgrade to 1.6 produce this error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function bp_displayed_user_id() in /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-template.php on line 1117

I am able to manuever through the site, view forums, and create a group, but I can’t invite anyone to a group or add a friend or access my Dashboard. I have posted on every support forum I know! What code should I look for in my themes or plugins that could be causing this? IF that is the issue…

I did not have a problem until I updated Buddy Press to 1.6

    @kmtrent,

I recommend you post your observations with Themekraft as well. I imagine that they’ve been working with the beta/RC and now final version, so they should already know what may be happening…

Yes, I am trying to connect with the theme and plugin support forums as well. I am pretty sure it is not a connection with Events Manager or Gravity Forms as both of these plugins are working correctly on the website right now. Found someone else to look at the back end, and hope to find a resolution. Will share it here if I discover the source of this trauma. :)

OK, I have just returned to the previous BuddyPress version (1.5.7) and all is well with the world now. 1.6 doesn’t work for us….

The 1.57 was flawed. The new 1.6 has reeked chaos. I don’t wish to be negative but there are real problems with this add on. Admittedly you have to work through upgrade difficulties but our own site died and could not be repaired. Fortunately we did have a back up but have to start asking the hard questions about is this the right path to take.

Presence Films — that’s not a constructive message on this forum topic, it doesn’t help anyone resolve any problems. You’re welcome to say whatever you like, but unless it helps the discussion, please do so on your own blog.

@kmtrent After you upgraded to 1.6, did you run the Update Wizard? https://codex.buddypress.org/releases/version-1-6/upgrading-to-1-6/

    Paul, OK, I get that.

I get a little on edge when the wingnuts fall off the car wheels, the prescription medicine makes all my hair fall out or the new upgrade crashes the site. I’m like that. I’ll get a punching bag or something and quit talking it in the forum. Only constructive stuff from now on.

Do remember your own advice when the wingnuts fall off your wheels and the car service department asks you to be constructive. ( Laugh…. I had to). ;o)

    Well, @presence-films,

I found your posts actually helpful. It made me really look at how I am setting up buddypress and it also makes me mindful of being careful and backing everything up before I begin any update process..

There is nothing wrong with reminding people how important it is to carefully consider updates and making sure everything is backed up, and there is nothing wrong with suggesting that there can be major frustrations with buddypress.

I think that particular piece of information should be useful to the people who are coding the plugin and probably be taken to heart a little more, rather than telling people who have major issues (on occasion… lol) their comments aren’t helpful here.

Having said that, I installed 1.6 on a new site I am building and I haven’t had any major issues. It’s looking nice and it is working nicely. Nice job (don’t hold it against me if my point of view changes a little from time to time)…

Hi All! I was having the same Fatal Error message and wasn’t able to access admin. But then just a few mins ago I upgraded buddypress successfully to 1.6!! Yippee!

What I did: Took a backup, DEACTIVATED all active plugins, then I Activated buddypress plugin only, Upgraded it, Voila I saw the update wizard, went through the steps, Reactivated all Recently Active Plugins, and Buddypress 1.6 is working nicely – Piece of Cake!!

Hi there, for me it’s not a fatal error but I’m not able to enter my dashbord. Since I upgrade BuddyPress, when I login as admin I only see a white blank page. I can’t do anything.

As the website is working I invite myself to be able to register. This process worked well but when I tried to access the new user dashboard it was not possible.

Please I seriously need your help. http://www.idrumit.net (fortunately the website is not launched but I was about to do it the next couple of weeks).

Hi IDrumit, did you back up your site via the Cpanel first? If so you can reinstall. If not….
