Updating BuddyPress 1.2.3 without my current theme changing to default

    Hello everyone,

I have done some changes with the default BuddyPress theme to make it suitable to my design. the problem is that now I think if I upgrade current version 1.2.2.1 to 1.2.3 I know that the default theme will overwrite my current changes.

Is there a way I can avoid that? Please advise.

tsk tsk. use a child theme.

Download the bp-default folder. Upgrade. Then overwrite the updated bp-default folder with the one you downloaded. You should really move all your changes to a child theme so you dont have to do this in the future.

:) I know I should have done that. Thanks for the guidance. Another question regarding the same. If I download the bp-default and then overwrite, wouldn’t I have any conflicts with the new version. Please advise. I shall start working on the child theme soon.

I just did this with another site and I haven’t had a problem. yet :P but really overriding theme files in a child theme would have the same results.

You should have no problem if you create your child theme in /wp-content/themes/ and not /plugins/buddypress/bp-themes.
