Use email address as username?

I want to eliminate “usernames” from my site. Members should be able to log in using just their email address and password.

Whereever usernames are used on profile pages, with blog posts, etc. I want to use real full names instead.

Is there any way to do this without hacking the code, perhaps with a plugin?

If not, what is the cleanest, least intrusive way to achieve this?

wp relies on usernames. bp uses the full name when displaying user info. There isn’t a switch to flip for turning off wp’s reliance on usernames that I’m aware of. Course I’ve been wrong alot lately.

OK, that’s what I thought.

Any suggestions on how to hack this? Could it be turned into a plugin?

Can I just add a line ’email address = username’ somewhere? Are you sure BP never uses the username when displaying user info?
