User avatar redirects to random page, not profile
-
Hi folks,
I’m trying to isolate an apparent quirk in BuddyPress having to do with an embedded user avatar image (via shortcode) not linking properly to the user profile, but instead to a random page. For example, on a page with a number of user images, three of the BP user avatar pics link to a different page, while the rest of the BP user avatars link to their respective profile as expected. Screengrab here
For example, the link should go to:
http://www.indiachinainstitute.org/members/lo-sze-ping/
But when you click on the avatar, it takes you to:
After running some tests, what appears to be happening is that anytime a permalink has the same name as the BP user in it (eg. ‘lo-sze-ping’ in the above example), then BP somehow automatically redirects to that page from the user avatar. So for example, another BP avatar on this page that was having the exact same problems should have gone to:
http://www.indiachinainstitute.org/members/nidhi-srinivas/
But when you clicked on his avatar image, you went to a post page like this:
http://www.indiachinainstitute.org/2011/02/04/nidhi-srinivas-water-harvesting-presentation/
Once I removed his name from the permalink, and retested it, it then went to a calendar event:
http://www.indiachinainstitute.org/ai1ec_event/nidhi-srinivas-water-harvesting-presentation/
It was only after I removed all posts and calendar events with ‘nidhi-srinivas’ from the permalink structure that the BP avatar finally directed me to his actual profile.
So I’m wondering if anyone had a similar problem, and if there is a fix, other than changing to an alternate permalink structure that does not use the text names like this, to fix the problem? We often have events with the speaker’s name in it, so this will continue to cause a problem in the future, and I’m wondering if it can be fixed from the backend, or if this is some deeper conflict with the permalink structure of WP itself?
Thanks in advance for any help.
chris
