User avatars suddenly only show on main site – disappeared on my other sites

Hello. Up until the recent upgrade to wordpress ms (3.9.1), buddypress (2.0.1), and bbpress, my user’s avatars where showing just fine throughout my site. Now they only show up on the main site. I saw this thread http://buddypress.org/support/topic/v1-7-no-avatars/ but I cannot find ‘settings’, ‘discussion’ from the wp-admin dashboard. I can find settings, but not discussion. I used “inspect element with firebug” and sure enough, each avatar on the other sites is now pointing to a different folder. On main site, they point to: /wp-content/uploads/2014/03/owl_avatar0785.jpg, on the other sites they are suddenly pointing to the respective sites’ folders, instead of the main content folder.
I do have the plugin ” BP Avatar Suggestions” installed. It has worked great until now. I can’t find any settings within that plugin that would affect this. Any help would be appreciated.
