User Profile Field Descriptions Showing Twice
-
Under the Users section in Profile Fields, I have created some new profiles fields for my Buddypress members to fill out. Each filed allows me to type in a description to help the member understand exactly what I want them to put in each field. I have typed some descriptions in the description field, but when I view the published page, it’s showing my descriptions not once, but twice. For example, one of my field descriptions is supposed to say “Enter your full first and last name so people can find you in searches.” – but it appears as
Enter your full first and last name so people can find you in searches.
This field can be seen by: Everyone
Enter your full first and last name so people can find you in searches. It’s ok that it also says “This field can be seen by: Everyone”. I set the settings that way, so that’s great, but the other text is not supposed to be showing up twice.

Can you share a screenshot? (Upload to https://postimg.org/ and share the URL to the screenshot.) Seeing how the fields are rendered may give a hint as to why this is happening.
It may also be worth switching to the Twenty Sixteen theme momentarily (or some other WP default theme) to see if it solves the problem. If so, you can narrow it down to your theme causing the problem. If that’s the case, please share details about your theme.
I have the same problem.
Look in the right column of my register pageWhen I change to Twenty Seventeen the duplicates disappear, though. Can you confirm, @aubreyw?
I use a child theme of GeneratePress. How can we correct this duplicate issue in our themes?
I had the same problem and I had the doubt on the custom register.php file in my child theme. This file was too old. I replaced it with updated version which resolved the problem.
1 – Go to /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/members and download a copy of register.php
2 – Add your customizations (which you have in your custom file) to this file
3 – Upload it to your child theme. Usually – /wp-content/themes/child-theme/buddypress/members
Hope this helps
I am having the same issue, but I do not have a child-theme. Also, where do I locate the custom file?
