username capitals

    So I’ve read a bunch of forum posts about usernames and capitals and how the username is ultimately the blog subdomain so it shouldnt have caps and that it’s also a core issue and not easily changable.. That is all fine and dandy with me, but I have found an issue or maybe a bug.

    First issue is that there’s no note on the username field that says that you can not use caps and therefore people will undoubtedly submit one with caps.

    Second, if you do submit a username with caps you get that error that says you can’t use it blah blah.. But the bug is that when you do change it and resubmit, it STILL gives you that error!!!

    In order to be able to sign in I had to go back out to the main page, shift refresh to clear cache, then reenter all my info.

    I would like to be able to add a little “only lowercase letters and numbers” and hopefully get that bug addressed

    1) You can modify your registration template in your theme or child theme to let your users know to use lowercase letters and numbers only:
    /wp-content/themes/YOUR-THEME/registration/register.php

    2) I believe the lowercase restriction is going to be lifted in BuddyPress 1.6.

    @r-a-y is correct about 2.
