Users can't edit their profile

WordPress 3.9.1, bbPress 2.5.4, BuddyPress 3.0.1
I’m still learning BP and building my site. All my users have been added by Admin and I’m testing, debugging. But when I login as a non-admin user, that user cannot edit their profile. Trying to do so produces this error message:
Permission Denied
Not Found / No Access
The page you are looking for either does not exist, or you do not have the permissions to access it.
Any pointers would be appreciated.
