Users Name on their Profile Page

I’ve just installed BuddyPress 1.2 and I’m trying to sort out how to make it so that when you view a persons profile page, their Username or nickname show up in the <h2> tags, instead of first and last name. I have the user set to display publicly as his username, but that doesn’t seem to matter?

Is this a bug, or am I just doing something wrong here?

If you look at the theme file /members/single/member-header.php

<?php bp_displayed_user_fullname() ?> is displayed in the h2 tag along with the atme mention @<?php bp_displayed_user_username() ?>

just replace it

Not sure if I should go that route or just use peoples first and last names. I just don’t want to scare off users if it displays their real names.
