Using Buddy Press in Conjunction with Current WordPress built site

So I’m new to this BuddyPress.

My straight forward question is: I have a fully functional site built using WordPress at http://www.saa.edu

If I want to incorporate this BuddyPress, will that change how my site works? I see it has it’s own head – doctype, meta, footer, etc… But let’s say I want to make a Page template in my Existing wordpress site, and pull in the layout of BuddyPress.

Should I install a second installation of wordpress and mirror my website design to look seamless or could I do it all within one existing installation just like any other normal pluggin?

When I activate it.. Obviously it loads all of this below the footer of my current site.

Searching for understanding???

Or I guess, could I strip out the header and footer in the BuddyPress template and create a Page Template in my main WordPress site that pulls the BuddyPress template parts into it???

Theming BuddyPress is like theming any other WordPress theme.
You’ll just need to add all the BuddyPress-related template files to your theme for it to be BuddyPress-compatible.

There’s a plugin out there that automates this, BP Template Pack: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/
However, use it as a guide as it needs to be updated.
