Using buddypress profile functions only.

Hi –
I am working on a project where we just need profile custom fields for users to come in and register and put in their info.
All other social network functions i.e. (adding friends, messages) disaled.
I am new to WP; so, not sure if something like this can be turned off with a setting or something… I am sure with enough code edits we can make this happen.
Tips, tricks?
Also, there is any other program that would just allow custom fields for user profiles and searching them?
