video plugin?

I think it would be great to allow members to upload their own video and audio files and have them converted for display.

While the youtube plugin sounds like a great idea, it’s time has come and gone already.

I currently use a few different youtube clone scripts on my sites that allow users to upload video in just about any format they choose. The video’s are then converted to flv files, if they are not flv to begin with. FFmpeg and flvtools are requirements on the server for this.

Anyhow, I just thought it would be a nice addon to bp to have video/audio in the members profile pages

I agree and will be either hiring a developer to do just this or integrating some existing scripts with buddy press for this.

We need a social network per say with video upload & conversion ability. If anyone is interested in either developing this please let me know.

Buddydev is about to release rc2 of bp-gallery, which does video and audio as well as images. You might look at that.

Would this do what you need?

I tested out Kaltura but one thing to caution you about that I saw was that the last updated date was almost 6 months ago and it shows compatibility with 1.0.x and 1.1.x, NOT 1.2. It didn’t seem to be very actively worked on so I started looking at different options. Here’s their wordpress repo link for you to decide on your own.

I looked at Kaltura but I’m not interested in using a 3rd party for storage etc. Thanks though!

The BP-Gallery plugin by BuddyDev.com is your best bet; it’s still in beta though.

Also, it’s a paid plugin. Cheapest membership rate is $30 for 3 months access to the entire plugin and theme gallery.

    There’s also MrMaz’s BP-Links plugin – https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-links/.

And oEmbed for BuddyPress – https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/oembed-for-buddypress/

Both of these plugins rely on third-party video sites like YouTube, DailyMotion, etc.

Thanks Symm2112 buddydev looks to be produced in India but does somewhat of what we need and quite possibly could fast track some dev.

    Thanks!

Don’t forget, a lot of the standard Word Press plugins work for Buddy Press. I used DOP-Player for my video posts. Lets you upload your flv or mp4 files and posts a player in the post. No off site parties involved. There is also an audio player plugin that works well. Actually what’s needed is a plugin for a video album on member’s profiles like the photo album plugin. If you are thinking about using DOP-Player you might want to read my review of it as it does not work correctly as it comes. The player.swf file is in the wrong folder in the plugin itself! Check out my review at http://tmblr.net Flash Blog.
