Welcome Widget – Adding Images

I want to display an image rather than text in the Welcome widget. I’ve tried both techniques previously suggested elsewhere: using the standard <img src=”> and copy/paste code from the visual editor. Both do not work. When I enter code in the widget and press the “save” button, the code vanishes and only text displays when I view the page.
What is the solution? Thanks in advance.
