What do I need to trigger to force groups to load external blogs (RSS)?

My site has a lot of groups that have regular RSS feeds to add to the main feed but do not get visited every day. What I want to do is write something I can activate by cron that will loop the groups I select and trigger the fetch RSS (external blogs).
