BuddyPress.org

Hi,
I could have missed something obvious, but nevertheless I need your help. I’m using BuddyPress with a child theme (Frisco) and want to add a custom js file to it, but where should I put and link to it? I’ve tried to put the link in the child theme’s header.php and put the javascript file into that theme’s js folder – without success. I’ve also tried putting it into the buddypress default theme’s header.php…
I’m using WordPress version 3.4.1 and BuddyPress version 1.5.6
