    I think this is a bug. I have been facing this issue for a very long time and raised it on this forum and reported to buddypress as well but with no solution as yet. If you try creating a topic under the forum as an non admin user, you might get an error as well.

    I have tested this using the base version WP 3.3.1 and 1.5.5 of BP as a plugin as well and it failed again. I have tested this on Mac using MAMP. It seems to be bug to me & I am surprised not to see too many posting on the issue

    Hi,
    Yes, the user is member of the group, infact the owner of the group.

    Privacy level is set as below

    This is a private group•Only users who request membership and are accepted can join the group.
    •This group will be listed in the groups directory and in search results.
    •Group content and activity will only be visible to members of the group.

    For public goups, it works fine.

    The version of WP is 3.3.1 and 1.5.5 of BP.
    Applied theme is BuddyPress Default 1.5.5
    The defaul wordpress installation/theme is Tachyon 1.1 by RocketTheme, LLC

    Yes, I can reproduce the issue with all plugins disabled.

    Pretty sure someone would have faced this error – “There was an error when creating the topic”. Please advise.

    Hello Mr Gibbs,

    Thanks for the quick response. I have verfied the dbname, username etc in bb-config and wp-config and they match to the correct settings. Could this be to do with some permission settings as it works fine with admin user? Is there any way to set debug log to get further details on the exception?
