I did some more digging on WordPress, and what I’m looking for is something like the “Comment Toolbar” plugin. It doesn’t work in buddypress though. 
That would be perfect if it did.
Ok, that is a really good workaround, the problem now is that my students are not that clever. I don’t mean to bad mouth them, but If it can’t be done without thinking, they are not going to be able to do this on a regulare basis.
is there plugin that will automatically parse a URL that links to an image? or even an “insert image” button?
