Right there with you @Anointed. Im using it on my site and it’s bug free so far.

    Yep it’s really great,

there is only one thing that could be a problem,

when albums will be built in, it could create confusion.

For example when it will be built in and i’ve +300 photos stored,

i’ll switch to the official one, and what about my old photos ?

Don’t worry about that, it won’t be an issue.

Let me just say that I love this plugin, but does anyone have an icon for it in the Profile? It looks kind of different there without an icon.

Screenshots look awesome… but I haven’t been able to get it working so far. When I try to upload it either throws and error or just spins and does nothing :-(

It installed perfectly for me. Still have to test it out tho.

It needs a report abuse button, tag & privacy added maybe set-up tweet photos!

Can’t figure out why it’s not working for me. I put it inside a fresh install of WPMU 2.7.1 and BP 1.0. No other plugins even activated. Permissions problem maybe? Where to the images get uploaded to?

    The error I’m getting is:

Catchable fatal error: Object of class WP_Error could not be converted to string in /Users/davelewis/Sites/wpmu/wp-content/plugins/bp-album.php on line 324

I’ve noticed that I only get this error when attempting to upload small images. When I try to upload a big image, the browser just spins and nothing happens. If you look at the plugin code around line 324… it’s looking at the size of the uploaded file and then using one of two functions to generate thumbnails via the WordPress function wp_create_thumbnail().

So it must have to do with my environment or WordPress MU setup. I’m using the built-in PHP in Leopard which (annoyingly) doesn’t come with the GD Library. So perhaps that is the issue. Safe to assume that wp_create_thumbnail() utilizes the GD Library. I’ve tried installing the entropy distribution of PHP5 before and it’s been a huge pain to get it working. So for development purposes (on my local machine)… I just use the Leopard PHP build.

Okay. It’s working now. I’m pretty sure the string replace error was because of my lack of GD (which I have installed now) but the other issue (uploads stalling) is still happening intermittently. I can’t figure out why.

@andypeatling – from your comment I get the feeling you’ll be expanding upon this plugin for the next release of BP? It would make sense to use the core of this plugin and build on it rather than start from scratch?

    Just my 2 cents worth…

I got the same feeling Daniel. Would like to know Andy’s response before I start using this one.

I hope Andy can extend or modify the plugin and build it to the core saves time !

What about help from this guru @ Dallasclark

If the plugin continues to improve and sticks to the standards then I’d like to allow Manoj to continue building it as the official component. We’ll see how it pans out over the next little while.

I think bp-events should be another “official component” candidate. Very impressed with both plug-ins so far. I’ve had a few issues with bp-photo so far and it needs a few things like activity feed integration (or a widget), bulk upload and delete (or at least delete from the thumbnail view)… which I’m sure are probably on Manjo’s list… but for a beta… it looks very promising.

@David Lewis, I agree with you about your comments..and maybe we all should buy a beer for the guru to motivate him more..LOL

I agree. I’m still in the evaluating / designing / etc. phase… but assuming I go live with a new site for my volunteer organization… I will be donating beer money for sure.

Hey Manoj, I’m adding tags to your current version with bpcontents. It gives me the opportunity to show developers how easy it is to integrate with bpc. I’ll send you the changes so you can take a look at this.

    I hope you don’t mind.

I agree that Manoj has done a great job with this component. It would be nice to see an option to upload other media types as well. People not only have photos, but video, audio, text, pdf, and other document formats that could all be organized around the concept of media.

An album, then, would be a user’s place to add all the media types that they wished to share and organize. There could be sub-albums with an option to group by date, by media type, or by category or tag. This is where Burt’s bpc component would come in very handy.

@JeffSayre, you just blew my mind. Great idea.

@BurtAdsit. Awesome! I use both plugins and it would be great to see them come together!

I think it’d be important for any core album component to be able to support multiple media types (not just images), at least ‘behind the scenes’ so the frontend for non-images could be done up later.

@JeffSayre Great Idea! I hope he does it..

Group integration would be nice too.

Yeah group integration would help the communities who are within those groups share more information.
