No BuddyPress Admin Bar

I’ve been trying to get BuddyPress working but it seems to be ignoring the fact that it’s installed.

I’ve installed and re-installed BuddyPress as well as the theme compatability pack several times now, and no matter what I do I can not get the BuddyPress admin bar to show up and thus can not move any further.

Why won’t it show up? What Can I do? BuddyPress settings show up in my Word Press admin page but there’s nothing when I visit my site.

I’m using WordPress 3.5 and the latest version of BuddyPress. I tried using the default BuddyPress theme and all that did was ugly up my site and add extra pages to my menu bar (actvity stream, user groups, etc – the pages I set up in the BP settings) – but no admin bar and no functionality.

@willusername after you activate BuddyPress, you have to go through the Installation Wizard https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installation-wizard/

Complete the process first before installing/activating BP Template pack plugin for WP theme compatibility with BP.

Re no admin bar, check if your theme’s footer.php file has the wp_footer call right before the closing body and html tags

I ran the BP compatibility pack but it didn’t do anything. I’m at the step (step three) where it’s telling me to check my site and look at the Buddy Press admin bar, but there’s no admin bar.

I looked at the editor for my theme and there doesn’t appear to be any footer.php file. What do I do?

First thing, did you go through the Installation Wizard? You didn’t answer above.

Second, what theme are you using? Can you access your theme folder in server wp-content/themes/ and double-check for footer.php or are you using a child theme?

Third, re admin toolbar, look in Settings > BuddyPress > Settings if you unchecked “Show the Toolbar for logged out users”

Yes, I went through the wizard. I don’t know what a child theme is, the theme is called “MyApp” from themeforest. We bought it and installed it.

I looked in that folder but there’s no footer.php file. It has header.php and other stuff, but no footer.

    That setting is checked on.

I looked in that folder but there’s no footer.php file

Deactivate BuddyPress. If your admin toolbar is still missing in action, you’d need to contact theme author re possibly missing/misplaced wp_footer hook required.
