Registration options and secure invites both don’t work well with 1.6

Hi all,
I’m looking for a plugin to moderate my registrations but this simple task is becoming very frustrating…
first I installed Registration options but it causes warnings and errors and I had to remove it immediately. then I tried going from the other direction and allowing registration only for invited users but when using “secure invites” the users can also not register and when clicking on the link to registration in the email I end up with the message “Sorry, you must be invited to join this community.”
I haven’t worked with wp for some time, but I hope this is not the usual thing…
if anyone has ideas how I can do this, I will appreciate any idea!

nilsby the way, I have the latest wp and bp 1.6 and have also tried other plugins that are not bp plugins but so far nothing worked…
