Transferring WP-based Buddypress site to a WPMU-based platform or Upgrade from WP to WPMU …..

    Hi guys,

    I’ve a Buddypress site version 1.6.1 based on regular WordPress (latest version). All works fine but the problem is that I can’t create blogs for (registered) users and that’s quite a pity. I’ve heard that blogging only works with WPMu installed. I was wondering whether are:

    1. BP-Plugins to create blogs in groups where registered users can blog and that also works on a WP-platform.

    2 If this is not the case is there a way to “transfer” my current WordPress-based Buddypress site to a WPMU platform? And how?

    3. Or is there a way to “upgrade” my regular WP-platform to a WPMU-platform so I can run my current Buddypress on it without re-installing my Buddypress?

    @kookidooki WPMU is old school and has been merged with WordPress way back version WP 3.0. If you want to allow your users to create blogs, you’d have to create a Network (go Multisite) https://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network

    I would suggest deactivating BuddyPress and other plugins, plus changing to Twenty Eleven theme before creating a network. Please make sure that your multisite installation is working as expected before activating BuddyPress again. If you have any issues going multisite, please post at https://wordpress.org/support/forum/multisite

    I’ve followed your instructions but somehow it’s throwing a massive amount of weird and very confusing code errors.

    I had no other choice than to start from scratch: I’ve reinstalled WP and upgraded it to WPMU. Next step was re-installing Buddypress and my custom theme. Copied some customized files from the old blog to the new one. It’s still time-consuming.

    Buddypress should have the multi-user and blog options pre-installed. :-()

    Nope, because not every BP-enabled site requires a network. Besides, that’s the mothership’s (WP) function. Glad you resolved it anyway :-)
