Why buy plugin? I want to convert my own A/V

    @voopress

I have noticed that only one video format is supported with the BP plugin. However, there is an addon available called BPM-FFMPEG which would allow for more formats to be uploaded then converted. The plugin does not support that many formats but that isn’t the problem.

The problem is that I build all of my linux servers with ffmpeg and full out audio/video conversion/compression tools installed so don’t really need yet another plugin to do that work for me.
What I need to know is how I can go ahead and use my own resources to accomplish this without having to purchase yet another plugin/package.

Can anyone provide some details on this.

    Thanks.

Sorry, not clear. Which BP plugin are you referring to?

I did mention it, the BuddyPress Media addon called BPM-FFMPEG.

What I am trying to find out is how I can use the tools I already have on my servers to convert/compress any format I already support to be uploaded by BuddyPress users.

This might help better explain. I’m sorry if my question is not coming out as it should.

Rather than buy yet more plugins to do things my servers can already do, I would prefer to use the conversion and compression tools which I already have on the server. I realize that BP only allows certain file types to be uploaded but my servers can covert to what ever is needed, so in this case, MP4.

So the information I am looking for is how to go about using my own tools instead of buying another plugin to accomplish what I need.

I found ‘WP Video Posts’ which I’ve just now posted in their support asking if it does what I’m looking for and that was my question here. Since I already have the capability to do these things on the servers, I’d like to know how I can do this.

    Thanks.

Anyone? Doesn’t anyone know the answer to this?

@voopress If you mean how to integrate WP Video Posts with BuddyPress, then what you’re asking for requires some coding time which is way beyond the scope of this forum support.

Otherwise, I see that the plugin dev had answered most of the support tickets in the plugin’s WP support forum. Do be patient or code it yourself or hire a developer to do so. Could be that the dev’s busy with another project or something else. Being sarcastic in the forums writing “Really, another dead plugin?” is not a good thing at all.

Useless answer. I didn’t ask anything about integration, I asked only about functionality. If you don’t have anything constructive to offer, why bother saying any of the above.

I’ve been using and pushing open source since the early 90’s. It is frustrating to use software where it’s community isn’t more actively helping others with replies in the forums and so on.

It certainly appears to me that open source is on the decline, mostly because of replies like yours. Everything that’s worth anything, we’ve bought and paid for.

I’m closing this thread it’s feeling antagonistic and unproductive now.

I’m not really clear on what was required here but essentially WP/BP have nothing to do with video file conversion and formats, other than attempting to render some where possible. Your reference to a plugin earlier  has little to do with BP or WP but more to do with working as an addon for an actual plugin:

This plugin adds automatic video conversion support for BuddyPress Media plugin.

Regardless you are asking a question in the wrong forum, the question is outside the remit   of this support forum for the core BuddyPress application.
